Who We Are
Tennessee 4-H encourages diverse groups of youth to develop their unique skills and talents to the fullest potential. Young people participate in 4-H through clubs, special interest groups, after-school programs, camps, and many other activities. "Learning by doing" through hands-on activities and community involvement empowers 4-H'er's to develop and strengthen life skills.
4-H is a family affair. This includes the parent-child relationship and the extended family of community and state. It is a unique blend of government, private business, and volunteers working together to broaden the horizons of Tennessee's young people. 4-H is fun for both child and adult.

History
Since its humble beginnings more than 100 years ago, 4-H has grown to become the nation’s largest youth development organization. The 4-H idea is simple: help young people and their families gain the skills they need to be proactive forces in their communities’ and develop ideas for a more innovative economy. That idea was the catalyst to begin the 4-H movement, and those values continue today.
As one of the first youth development organizations in America, 4-H opened the door for young people to learn leadership skills and explore ways to give back. 4-H revolutionized how youth connected to practical, hands-on learning experiences while outside of the classroom.
